How we got engaged

Sean proposed to me at Mohonk Mountain House - a place I grew up going every year with my parents. It was an overcast day and threatening rain, but Sean was insistent on going. Sean has never been much of a planner so I agreed to go with him, thinking I should support his sudden interest in planning our weekend activities.

We arrived at Mohonk and were trying to figure out how to spend our time before our lunch reservation. Sean suggested a walk through the gardens, which I thought was a nice idea. I wanted to show him the tree house I spent hours in as a kid.

We started up the stairs when I heard a thud, and turned to see Sean clutching his head. Apparently he had knocked his head into one of the tree house's beams. Luckily it was nothing serious but it apparently rattled him. While sitting in the tree house we saw baby deer running around the field like they were playing - something I had never seen before. Then, a family came to the tree house and was about to come up so Sean suggested we continue our walk. He lead me around the field. I thought we were trying to get a better look at the deer, but he had his sites set on a gazebo higher up on the hill.

We made our way to the gazebo. From there we had a great view of the gardens and Mohonk Mountain House. I noticed that Sean kept looking around over his shoulder - perhaps for the deer?

All was quiet and before I knew it Sean was whispering to me - telling me how special I was, getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him! He pulled a beautiful box out of his pocket, with an even more beautiful ring inside. I nodded my head yes and smiled. We sat together in the gazebo, reflecting on our relationship and wondering what exciting moments were yet to come!
